About The Maple Room | Directions/Map | Local Lodging and Restaurants
The Maple Room is the brainchild of Taylor and Rebecca Mesplé, two musicians who
recently moved their base of operations from Colorado to Maine. "Our personal experiences
as performing songwriters have guided us every step of the way," explains Rebecca. "It's our
passion to create a listening room where every nuance of the artist's musicianship and
storytelling is highlighted."
The Mesplés have spent the past several months meticulously planning, designing and implementing every detail of The Maple Room. The 80-seat performance space offers seating on three sides of the stage to maximize the up-close-and-personal feel of the room. There will be some additional "standing room" as well. A gallery space will feature the work of area artists and the concession stand will offer organic treats – the majority of them made in Maine.
The Maple Room will serve as a hub for local performers, as well as showcase the world- class talent the Mesplés plan to bring to the area. The couple hopes to recreate the vibrant community of artists and musicians they left behind in Colorado. "We love the cultural vibe of Maine," says Rebecca. "We believe a space like the Maple Room will act as a real catalyst for all the inspiration and creativity we have encountered throughout our lives. All it takes is a place where people can come together and feel comfortable. That - and great acoustics," she adds with a smile.
Taylor Mesplé is yet another of the growing group of top professional musicians who have quietly chosen to make their home in Maine. Raised in a musical household in Colorado, Taylor was a fulltime studio musician and performer by age 13. A gifted pianist and songwriter, Taylor has released several of his own recordings, done session work on over 120 CDs, and performed as a sideman in over 1000 shows to date. Recent work includes performances with James Taylor and Keb' Mo' on the nationally syndicated E-TOWN radio program. One of his mentors, Russell Ferrante of the Grammy-winning jazz group, the Yellowjackets, calls Taylor’s compositions "stunning and multifaceted." Taylor also owns and runs InnerCircle Productions, a recording studio and production company, now based in Maine.
Events at the Maple Room will include acoustic singer/songwriters, jazz, classical music, poetry readings, a weekly Open Mic, and more. "Maybe even a movie night or comedy," says Rebecca. "I don’t think we’ve even begun to tap into the possibilities offered by the community here." While InnerCircle Productions will produce the majority of the events, the room is available for rental to interested outside producers and artists.
The Maple Room will open on September 6, 2007 with a rare small-club appearance by Jimmy Buffett’s guitarist Peter Mayer. Other performances on the schedule so far include Livingston Taylor, the Portland String Quartet, Peter Mulvey, and Willy Porter.
